A Romantic Escape Awaits

By: E.J. Bowman

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and we are glad to be filling our bed and breakfast with the love and warmth of our guests. A bed and breakfast is a quaint getaway during this romantic weekend. However, we aren’t just roses and chocolates in February. Our B&B offers guests a welcoming place to stay in Lancaster County all year long.

Here are some of the fun things to see and do each season at the E.J. Bowman House Bed & Breakfast.

Winter

Enjoy the holidays in Lancaster County with the tree lighting in downtown Lancaster, caroling on the streets of Lititz and the lights of Hershey Park’s Christmas Candylane. Following the holidays, our B&B is a great escape from the cold winds of winter. Each guest room has a freestanding gas log fireplace that warms chilly toes and beckons you to cozy up with a good book or relax in the parlor after a day out and about. Another added bonus, you can enjoy watching the snow fall without worrying about shoveling.

Spring

In the spring, our gardens come to life. Behind the bed and breakfast, you can explore the ponds and paths of our estate, while finding a quiet place for relaxation and a cup of tea. Lancaster, PA is also known for their Mud Sales. These sales are organized by local fire companies in order to raise funds for equipment needed before the spring planting season. You can spend a whole weekend exploring sales and auctions for hand-made furniture, crafts, quilts and other unique goods.

Summer

Lancaster County offers a vast variety of summer activities. You can visit the many local wineries and breweries in the county, all of which offer tours of their facilities and complimentary tastings. Pack a blanket and find the perfect spot on the grass for one of Long’s Park’s Summer Concert Series performances. Spend a Saturday morning strolling through Lancaster Central Market and the surrounding shops and boutiques of downtown Lancaster. Then, soak up the sun on the beach and grab an ice cream cone at the Jigger Shop in Mt. Grenta.  There is so much to do and we will gladly recommend some of our favorite places and activities.

Fall

As the leaves begin to fall and the days grow shorter, we welcome our guest to partake in some of the charming fall gatherings throughout the county. Historic Landis Valley Village is a short drive from our B&B and offers tours of the grounds, hands-on folk art workshops, and a fall festival complete with a pumpkin patch and home-made apple cider. One of our other favorite fall activities is a trip to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. The Ren Faire welcomes families to the grand ole days of Renaissance times. You can watch honorable knights duel for the hand of the faire maiden and enjoy one of their famous turkey legs. Artisans offer hand-blow glassware, ironworks and other mementos of your trip to Lancaster County.

Regardless of the time of year, here at the E.J. Bowman House, you will always find clean and cozy accommodations with plenty of activities to ensure a memorable experience.
